Consumer Reports published an article recently comparing two black pumps. One pair was a $500 pair from Manolo Blahnik, and the other pair cost $69 by Nine West.
The article stated that the Manolos was the superior shoe in terms of fabric, construction, etc. It is absolutely true. It would be better to compare Manolos with shoes made by a company such as Stuart Weitzman.
Weitzman’s shoes cost between $150 and $200, which isn’t cheap. But they are cheaper than Manolos. My Weitzmans, which I bought on sale, were more stylish and comfortable. They also cost 50% less.
Ask yourself these five questions when deciding if designer shoes such as Manolo Blahniks, are worth your money.
What do you feel like wearing Manolo Blahniks when you’re walking?
You don’t have to purchase shoes that are “hot” if they can’t be worn. Period.
After I buy shoes, I walk the floor in the shoe section for five minutes after putting the shoes on. This is what I do at Target. Keep them if they still feel good. The shoes are thrown out if they don’t feel good.
What is the response of the fabric to elements?
You can test the shoe’s fabric by putting it through a simple wear-and-tear test. Do not do this if you haven’t taken a shower that day or if you are using Vaseline. The shoes will be stained. Rub your fingers on your skin, then on the fabric of the shoes. Is the nap instantly worn out? Your finger left a mark on your shoe?
What material is the sole made from?
Leather soles are often found on expensive shoes. Leather soles don’t usually last as long as synthetic or wood soles.
Is the heel stable?
The shoe’s heel should be stable and feel connected to the rest of the shoe.
Do designer shoes come with a shoe bag?
When you pay a lot of money for shoes they should be packaged in their own bags.
